Centivizer
Transforming the future of dementia care. Designed to combat the functional decline in the aging population.
Physical and cognitive functions decline with age, and this decline typically accelerates when people have major medical events (e.g., heart failure), or after they enter long term care. Exercise is known to lead to better physical and cognitive function, but many people do not give enough exercise as they age and this is particularly true in long term care where budgets for promoting activation are constrained.
There is an urgent need to measure physical and cognitive function on an ongoing basis and to provide greater amounts of activation.
Cognitive Centivizer
Measure cognitive decline caused by natural processes, disease, and lack of activation. Monitor cognitive functions using a suite of easy-to-learn Target Acquisition Games.
Experiential Centivizer
Promote cognitive and physical health with positive stimulation through personalized video experiences and simulated navigation. It gives older people with mobility impairments an opportunity to drive and reconnect with the outside world.
Physical Centivizer
Engaging gamified exercise with little required supervision from caregivers. Seniors can enjoy a virtual biking experience by hand or foot pedaling while listening to their preferred genre of music. The advanced multiplayer mode enhances the social connection between individuals, where they can compete or team up in a fun pedaling exercise.

Applying the new branding to the web design

Character Design
I led the design of all 2D assets for the Cognitive Centivizer.
I designed the moles to be used in the game with different accessories that it can wear. Additionally, 16 different versions of the mole were created to represent "brain types." The brain types are used in the results page upon completion of the gamified cognitive evaluation tests.

Design System &
Icon Library Development
I led the development of design system in alignment with the new branding. The design system ensured consistency in UI amongst the three products while speeding up the UI re-design and development process. The assets were documented and created as components in Figma. The icons were also redesigned for consistency and an icon library was created as well.

Product Workflow &
UI Design
Of the three products, I focused on re-designing the overall end-to-end user flow for the Cognitive Centivizer.
In addition to creating new characters, I re-designed the UI elements and the page layout to change its look and feel.

Takeaways
What have I learned from this experience?
1
Practicing accessible design for seniors with limited vision, hearing, and mobility needs.
2
Working with hardware designers to create seamless experience between the gears and the interaface.
3
Creating game-like visual assets such as characters and score leaderboard.
What would I have done differently?
1
Seek for more opportunity to learn about the best UI design practices for seniors, rather that relying on trying and testing
2
Need to continue to iterate and test the product website and implement consistency with visual assets.
3
Consider the use of assistive technologies in the product use.
